Eurofest

This blog entry is in English in order to say thanks to the many volunteers and donors who helped out making the Swedish Meatball Table a success at the 13th annual EUROFEST. THANK YOU ALL who helped supporting us with time, labor, products and advice! You all helped us raise $1,008.61 where half of the proceeds will go to the SWEA UBC Scholarship to support Swedish studies in Sweden, and half to the Swedish School in Burnaby.

Despite the dreadful weather and cold temperature, several thousand people found their way to the Scandinavian Centre on May 29th. Sweden was represented together with 19 other countries in the food tent. We cooked about 1,400 meatballs, made 150 portions of delicious mashed potatoes, served more than 200 cups of coffee and 300 pieces of cake.  Although we use EUROFEST as an opportunity to raise some funds, we also want to showcase some Swedish foods and the never-ending Swedish presence in the lower mainland. Volunteers from SWEA, the Swedish Cultural Society, the Facebook group “Swedes in Vancouver” and the UBC program for Swedish studies showed up to cook, clean and serve foods.

Yvonne Spence and Astrid Switzer of SWEA and the Swedish Cultural Society had put together a very charming display of Swedish brochures and traditional things in the Culture Tent. Sweden was one of 32 countries in the culture tent this year.

Thank you IKEA for donating your delicious meatballs, cakes and other sweet stuff! Your continued support means the world to us.

Thank you Carina Spencer for your generous donation of potato mash. The product you gave us was so good that people thought we actually had made it from scratch!
