Undergraduate Scholarship for Exchange Studies in Sweden – SWEA-UBC Scholarship

Persons eligible: Canadian citizens or landed immigrants enrolled in an undergraduate Swedish language course at the Department of Central, Eastern and Northern European Studies (CENES) of the University of British Columbia.
Scholarship Summary:
SWEA Vancouver is excited to offer a CA$3,000 Scholarship to a UBC student (Undergraduate or Graduate) who’s gearing up for a study adventure in Sweden! We welcome applications from everyone, and your study focus in Sweden can be in any field. We want you to dive deep into Swedish culture and broaden your horizons while exploring this beautiful country. Whether it’s the language, history, music, or cuisine – immerse yourself and soak it all in!
Scholarship Requirements:
- You’ll need to live and study in Vancouver.
- Show that you’ve been accepted into a study program in Sweden.
- Plan to be in Sweden for your studies in 2024-2025
- Demonstrate a genuine curiosity about Sweden and its culture.
- Share how you’ll use the scholarship money (like flights, books, rent, food).
- Don’t forget to give us a live presentation about your time in Sweden upon your return.
- Above all, have a fantastic time exploring Sweden and soaking up all it has to offer!
- Remember, SWEA members and their families can’t apply.
The application
Persons eligible: Canadian citizens or landed immigrants enrolled in an undergraduate Swedish language course at the Department of Central, Eastern and Northern European Studies (CENES) of the University of British Columbia.
Where tenable: At any recognized university institution in Sweden.
Application must include:
- Full name of applicant.
- Citizenship status, date of birth, Social Insurance Number.
- Postal address, email, phone and fax.
- Educational background: current level of study.
- Swedish courses in progress and/or completed.
- Proposed program of study in Sweden, including name and place of host institution, dates, length of course, number of hours per week.
- Estimated expenses: (air ticket, course, room-board). Resources: How much, if any, funds are available for the proposed project? Amount requested: (up to CA$ 3,000).
- A short essay (~250 words) explaining how the proposed program fits into the applicant’s overall study and personal development.
- A letter of recommendation from the instructor or the head of the Swedish language course at UBC.
- A letter of recommendation from another person with close knowledge of the applicant’s potential as a student.
The Scholarship Committee will review all applications and recommend the most qualified applicant to SWEA Vancouver’s Board of Directors, which will make the final decision.
SWEA Vancouver reserves the right not to award the scholarship on an annual basis.

The recipient is expected to hold a presentation at a SWEA Vancouver meeting after the completion of the study program.
