Time for cray­fish! Tra­di­tion­ally,  a Swedish cray­fish party takes place in the end of the sum­mer. Cray­fish par­ties have spread to all the Nordic coun­tries and are gen­er­ally held dur­ing August. Thistra­di­tion was started because cray­fish har­vest­ing in Swe­den was, for most of the 20th cen­tury, legally lim­ited to late sum­mer. Since the sum­mer lasts longer in BC than in Swe­den, thys year’s party will take place on Fri­day, Sep­tem­ber 26.  Since the Swedish cray­fish became extinct, Swedes all over the world rely on IKEA and China to deliver these yummy and deli­cious shell fish for our some­times rowdy parties.

These con­si­tute of com­i­cal paper hats, paper table­cloths, paper lanterns (often depict­ing the Man in the Moon), and bibs. A cheer­ful atmos­phere pre­vails amid noisy eat­ing and tra­di­tional drink­ing songs (printed in a lit­tle book­let in Eng­lish so that every­one can take part). It is con­sid­ered cus­tom­ary to suck the juice out of the cray­fish before shelling it. Don’t worry, we will show you how it is done!

Sim­i­lar to last year, SWEA part­ners with the Swedish Cul­tural Soci­ety in organ­is­ing the salti­est event of the year. The tick­ets include a three course meal  with entern­tain­ment dur­ing din­ner, and danc­ing to Swedish music after. Babysit­ting can be arranged if required (let us know when you sign up so that we can organ­ise this). Only 60 tick­ets will be sold, so pur­chase your ticket early!
